Most mascara in the market is mainly composed of wax (beeswax, palm wax, paraffin wax, microcrystalline wax, etc.), film-forming agent, fiber and minor moisturizing component and pigment. Among them, wax, as the structure of mascara, plays a key role in the hardness, adhesion and three-dimensional effect of the inner materials, with an addition amount of 8%-15%. Wax-based mascara is not only waterproof, but also has a good shaping effect, which can help mascara “stands”on the eyelashes and make them look thicker and curlier.
To study the performance of different waxes in mascara, Fumei Lab developed a mascara which was matched with three waxes from different sources, of which Cerafumei® White Beeswax 2001 has moderate melting point (61-66 °C), low brittleness, high viscosity and good thickening effect. When the addition ratio is high, the paste is soft and sticky, which can create a dense, more lush-appearing lash look. Cerafumei® Carnauba wax 2012 is a plant wax with a high melting point (80-86 °C) and excellent thermal stability. Thanks to its hard texture, it has low viscosity, good fluidity when used in mascara. When the addition ratio is high, the hardness of the paste can be effectively improved, thus making your eyelashes curlier. Microfumei® Microcrystalline wax 6201 has a soft texture, and as an adhesive, it can wrap eyelashes well, and at the same time, it has excellent ductility, which can enhance the flexibility of the paste and make it smooth.
