Ozokerite Waxes are originally mineral wax, derived from coal and shale. Nowadays ozokerite waxes for cosmetics are synthesized from petroleum, exactly like microcrystalline wax or its blend with paraffin wax.
They are white, odorless and hard with a relatively high melting point and excellent oil binding capacity. They can increase viscosity, assist in emulsion stability and reduce the brittleness of stick preparations and add hardness. These properties encourage their use in lipstick and lip care products to promote structure and stick strength.
